Implementing Quality Control and Assurance (QA/QC)
Resolution drives results. Identification of structural trends, geologic boundaries, and key features all rely on high-resolution data. No one takes this more to heart than PGW, starting with Quality Assurance / Quality Control. This is a particular strength at PGW with emphasis placed on obtaining the highest quality data right in the field where it’s easiest to keep costs down.
PGW’s Quality Control approach incorporates:
- Pre-survey calibrations. We review all required pre-survey calibrations at predetermined sites prior to authorizing mobilization of the survey crew and system. We have experience establishing calibration sites to international standards.
- Data acquisition. We review all ongoing calibrations and tests; review all acquired data (often through a combination of on-site inspections and remote monitoring of the data); designate reflights/repeats; authorize demobilization of the survey crew and system once all data are accepted; and review all required post-survey calibrations. In addition to the standard tests to ensure adherence to survey specifications, PGW carries out a range or proprietary analyses to optimize data quality and works with the contractor to modify the acquisition parameters for local conditions.
- Survey deliverables. We monitor throughout the data compilation process (with a visit to the contractor’s data processing centre if necessary), and review all draft and final deliverables. This extends to data interpretation and integration should these be deliverables.
Over the past ten years, PGW conducted survey quality control of more than 4 million line kilometers of data at the sites shown below. Some are individual surveys and some are country-wide (Uganda, Nigeria) or large-scale (India, Cameroon, Angola).
